Vögel

German vocabulary, one card at a time. Privacy policy and support.

Vögel collects no personal data. Nothing you do in the app leaves your phone.

That is the whole policy. The rest of this page explains it.

Privacy policy

Vögel is a German→English vocabulary app for iPhone and Android. It works entirely offline.

What the app stores

Your progress lives in a small database on your device: which words you have seen, how you rated them, your streak, your starting level and your settings, such as the colour theme and the cards per session. This data never leaves the phone, except inside your phone's own backup (iCloud or Google) if you have backups turned on; we cannot see those backups. Deleting the app deletes the data from the phone.

What the app does not do

Apple

If you have opted in to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash logs and usage statistics through App Store Connect. This is controlled by Apple and by your settings, not by Vögel. See Apple's App Store privacy notice.

Google

If you have turned on usage and diagnostics sharing on your Android phone, Google may give us anonymous crash and performance statistics through the Google Play Console. This is controlled by Google and by your settings, not by Vögel. See Google's privacy policy.

Children

Vögel collects no data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If a future version ever collects data, for instance optional crash reporting, this page and the app's privacy labels on the App Store and Google Play will say so before that version ships.

How Vögel is made

Vögel is made by one person together with Claude, Anthropic's AI. The design, the code and the word list were built in collaboration with Claude Fable and Claude Opus agents, and every change is reviewed by the author before it ships.

The translations, articles and example sentences were assembled the same way and may contain mistakes. If something looks wrong, please write in. Corrections go into the next update.

Support

Questions, a wrong translation or a word you think is missing? Write to voegelapp@yahoo.com. Vögel is made by one person, so replies can take a few days.

Licences and attributions

Vögel uses the Caprasimo and Figtree fonts, both released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

The word list was ranked with help from the FrequencyWords German list, derived from OpenSubtitles 2018 and released under CC BY-SA 4.0. The words, translations and example sentences in the app are Vögel's own.
